Health Coach – Nutrition Plan and Goals

Good morning. Over the last 5 years or more I’ve had the opportunity to sign up with a health coach. The health coach (phone appointments only) is part of my health insurance plan and is free of charge. The participation usually last for a about 6 weeks and includes a few phone calls conferring with the coach. This is a great opportunity for me to reboot or reset my goals each year and it also helps me to get a discount on my health insurance plan.

Starting last year my health insurance plan will pay for a Nutritionist; 6 visits a year. Unfortunately there aren’t any Nutritionists in my area and in the network. I’m sure there will be later on.

In the meantime I found out that my doctors office has a free heath coach program, so I decided to give it a try.

I am able to visit my personal health coach regularly (every two or three weeks) and see them in person. She is a RN and tracks my progress. She also helps me with my goals and can monitor my health. This is great for anyone who wants to do a juice fast or juice cleanse. I highly recommend seeing a healthcare professional when juice cleansing for more than three days.

So in the next couple of articles I’ll let you know how the visits go and what progress I make. The first visit was about nutrition and goals.

health coach goals

Nutrition Plan

  • Very simply. Watch my carbohydrates! 45g per meal!
  • Eat plenty of whole fruits and vegetables and eat only lean meat at meals.
  • Stay away from processed foods, fast food and sugar. Pretty simple huh?

Goals

  • Add 30 minutes of walking to my exercise plan per week.
  • Cut back on sweets (cacao) to three nights per week.
  • 100 ounces of water per day.

I just had my annual wellness checkup and I’m in good health now, but I could stand to lose a few pounds and my LDL is a little elevated, but not enough to cause concern or take medication.

My long term goals are to stay healthy and keep off prescribed medications for as long as I can. Hopefully for the rest of my life. I don’t think that’s a far fetched goal.

Thanks for reading. I’ll follow up with another post after the next visit with my health coach. Best wishes!

I’ve been working on getting in shape and healthy, and have found that changes in my diet affect my overall health and weight more than anything. I still include a decent exercise plan, but if I slip on my diet for a weekend I will feel like garbage on Monday. There really is truth to eating clean. I’ve found that the hardest part of my meal plan is getting enough protein. I’m at a point where I’m trying to add a little muscle through strength training and diet changes, but upping protein is a lot more challenging than I had thought. I’ve been drinking a lot of water and making good choices with fruits and vegetables, but increasing protein is a lot harder than I would have thought.

Your nutrition plan is simple, but this is what diet is all about. Eat clean, have fewer carbohydrates and get more whole food. It is as simple as that. There is no need to follow those fad diets.
