Recipes For Fasting and Detoxing | Cucumber Refresher and Diane’s Delight

Okay, here are a couple of very simple recipes for fasting and detoxing. So simple, I don’t know why I didn’t think of this myself.

I think everyone that I’ve ever juiced with loves cucumber, but cucumber juice alone isn’t very good. At least for my taste buds.

Cucumber juice needs a little something extra to make it more enjoyable for me and that something extra is lemon. See the first recipe. Why didn’t I think of adding lemon?

So here are a couple of simple recipes for fasting and detoxing as found in one of my favorite books, Juicing, Fasting, and Detoxing for Life: Unleash the Healing Power of Fresh Juices and Cleansing Diets. If you haven’t picked up this book, I highly recommend it.

Both recipes are good for a weight loss program too.

Recipes For Fasting and Detoxing

Cucumber Refresher

Makes 12 ounces

  • 1 cucumber, peeled ( I had a very large cucumber for this one)
  • 1/2 lemon, peeled

Recipes For Fasting and Detoxing

These recipes went together perfectly for me because they both start out with cucumber and lemon. The second recipe just adds two more ingredients.

You could do as I did and try them both at the same time, or save the second one for later. I store mine in the fridge tightly sealed in a mason jar.

Making only one of these recipes just isn’t worth the effort. I want to make enough juice for two people at a time or at least be able to save some for later.

Diane’s Delight

Makes 12 ounces

  • 1 cucumber, peeled
  • 1/2 lemon, peeled
  • 2 to 3 stalks celery, leaves can be included
  • 1 inch chunk gingerroot, scrubbed, or peeled if old

Recipes For Fasting and Detoxing

I enjoyed both of these recipes and I think they are best served over ice. I found that after the ice had melted a little and the juice diluted, each juice recipe was better.

These are healthy vegetable juice recipes and not sweet. If you’re used to sweet fruit juice recipes, set your expectations accordingly.

    My my, I also love to eat cucumber with noodles, but i don’t think this cucumber juice would suit my sweet taste. Lately I’ve been enjoying orange and lime juice and it really serves well if you crave for a bitter-sweet taste. Or what do you think Rich?

    Can’t wait to try this recipe. I definitely prefer the idea of the second one. I love adding ginger to my juices. You do have to be careful with it, though. If you add to much it can be a hot. But it’s really great for the digestion, so I love drinking ginger first thing in the morning. I haven’t tried juicing cucumber yet. This recipe seems very refreshing and light. thank you!

    Why not use the peel of the the cucumber and lemon as long as they are organic? Isn’t there a great deal of additional nutritional value in the peel? What do you think. Thanks.

      Great question and I see no reason not to. The recipe just calls for peeling so I did it that way. I grow my own cucumbers in the summer and I don’t have to be concerned about peeling them. Those waxy cucumbers bought in stores should be peeled. I can’t get organic lemons so I prefer to peel them. I wish I could grown them 🙂

      Yes you’re right, the skin on lemons and cucumbers are full of healthy nutrients. Use them if you can.
