Eye Opener | Kale, Spinach, Carrot and Grapefruit

Yeeesss! I struck gold. The Eye Opener is the best kale and grapefruit recipe I’ve run across. The grapefruit makes a wonderful early morning green juice. It truly is an eye opener, but not too tangy.

I don’t know if it’s the kale that cuts the tangy flavor of the grapefruit or if it’s the grapefruit that smooths out the strong flavor of the kale, but whatever it is, it’s fantastic! Served best over ice.

Maybe it’s just the right combination and amount of ingredients that makes this juice so good.

It’s a simple recipe too. Just kale, spinach, carrot and a grapefruit. The grapefruit needs peeling, but that’s pretty easy. I’m used to peeling citrus fruit when juicing. Speaking of peelers, here’s a good one: OXO Good Grips Swivel Peeler.

What a great post about an all natural way to heal the eye from nutrition. Four very important vitamins for eye floaters are vitamin C, E, A and D. These vitamins can help to prevent and cure eye floaters. Vitamin C has been shown to enhance the repair of cartilage, a protein found in the eye that is responsible for maintaining the proper shape of the vitreous humor. In addition, both vitamin C and E have anti-oxidant properties, and neutralize free radicals. Vitamin A is perhaps the most popular vitamin when it comes to eye health and good vision. It is essential for sight, and is crucial for optimal ocular health. A good intake of vitamin A has been shown to prevent many eye-related conditions. Vitamin D plays numerous roles in the body, including the prevention of degeneration of body tissues.

I’ve been making something very similar to this for awhile… But I always called it “Ghost Putty” and included half a tomato…

Main reason for the name is the first time I made some, my grandson was watching me and when I started drinking it he exclaimed, “Ghost putty!!!”

…Turns out he had dropped a small lump of silly putty into the blender when I wasn’t looking. But mixture was like a kick in the pants, and i kept the name cause it was funny. 🙂

Hi Gina that’s a good question. I mean my hands may be larger than someone elses, so mine will turn out different. I guess what I’m saying (and the book) is use a little extra for a large handful. The more I do it the better I know how much I can tolerate of an ingredient. My juicing sense kicks in 🙂 Thanks for commenting, best wishes and happy juicing.
