Health Coach – Nutrition Plan and Goals
Good morning. Over the last 5 years or more I’ve had the opportunity to sign up with a health coach. The health coach (phone appointments only) is part of my health insurance plan and is free of charge. The participation usually last for a about 6 weeks and includes a few phone calls conferring with the coach. This is a great opportunity for me to reboot or reset my goals each year and it also helps me to get a discount on my health insurance plan.
Starting last year my health insurance plan will pay for a Nutritionist; 6 visits a year. Unfortunately there aren’t any Nutritionists in my area and in the network. I’m sure there will be later on.
In the meantime I found out that my doctors office has a free heath coach program, so I decided to give it a try.
I am able to visit my personal health coach regularly (every two or three weeks) and see them in person. She is a RN and tracks my progress. She also helps me with my goals and can monitor my health. This is great for anyone who wants to do a juice fast or juice cleanse. I highly recommend seeing a healthcare professional when juice cleansing for more than three days.
So in the next couple of articles I’ll let you know how the visits go and what progress I make. The first visit was about nutrition and goals.
- Very simply. Watch my carbohydrates! 45g per meal!
- Eat plenty of whole fruits and vegetables and eat only lean meat at meals.
- Stay away from processed foods, fast food and sugar. Pretty simple huh?
- Add 30 minutes of walking to my exercise plan per week.
- Cut back on sweets (cacao) to three nights per week.
- 100 ounces of water per day.
I just had my annual wellness checkup and I’m in good health now, but I could stand to lose a few pounds and my LDL is a little elevated, but not enough to cause concern or take medication.
My long term goals are to stay healthy and keep off prescribed medications for as long as I can. Hopefully for the rest of my life. I don’t think that’s a far fetched goal.
Thanks for reading. I’ll follow up with another post after the next visit with my health coach. Best wishes!
